Diamond comes in different flavors, for different uses and applications.
All measured in carats – diamond grit/powder, tiny/small/large gem sized diamond, single-crystal diamond ingots and wafers, some industry reports throw all of this into one bucket:
Diamond grit, a diamond ingot, and a diamond plate - each representing 10 carats. Scale approximate.
Our analysis reports the world data by diamond type and use.
Two key charts show the state of the diamond industry:

Annual Diamond Production: By Regional Origin

Confidential data from DPC members. Lab-grown supply is estimated from Government of India monthly trade statistics for non-industrial lab-grown diamonds, unworked (ITC-HS 71042120), for January to December 2025: 72.2 million carats imported, less 4.4 million carats exported, plus an estimated 20 million carats grown in India. The estimate assumes nearly all lab-grown rough for jewelry is cut in India. The HPHT and CVD split applies the January to June 2025 customs split, about two-thirds HPHT, to the full year. Customs records name the consigning country, often a trading hub, so regional figures are DPC allocations based on trade data and industry information. Size estimates reflect typical crystal sizes by growth method and are indicative. Mined production is from the Kimberley Process Annual Global Summary 2025, which covers all mined rough, including industrial grades. Industrial diamond production is from the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026. The mined size estimate is from STARK Resources (2022).
